Luxury Seaside Hotels

The world’s finest hotels at the water’s edge — where they are, what sets them apart and how to book them well.

Explore by region »

There is a particular kind of luxury that only the sea provides: waking to the sound of surf, stepping from your terrace onto sand, watching the light change over the water from a quiet table at dinner. The best seaside hotels are built around that experience, and choosing one is as much about location and the room itself as it is about the brand on the door.

This guide is organized by region, with the hotels and resort areas worth knowing in each. Every destination links to live rates on RoomsCheap, and a luxury specialist can add the perks that make a great stay better.

What to Look For

Location first

A swimmable beach at the door beats a famous name set back across a road. Check the beach type and the season.

The right room

Oceanfront, ground-floor with beach access, a plunge pool or an overwater villa: the room defines the stay.

Size and pace

Intimate hotels feel personal and quiet; large resorts offer more restaurants, pools and activities.

What’s included

Breakfast, resort fees, transfers and non-motorized water sports can add up. See How to Choose.

Luxury Seaside Hotel FAQ

What makes a seaside hotel “luxury”?

A prime beachfront location, generous rooms with real sea views, a high ratio of staff to guests, excellent dining and spa, and thoughtful service: beach butlers, set-up loungers, turndown and a concierge who can get the table you want.

Oceanfront, ocean view or partial view: what is the difference?

Oceanfront rooms face the sea directly with nothing in between. Ocean view means you can see the sea, possibly across gardens or a road. Partial ocean view can mean a glimpse from the balcony. Ask for a floor plan or photos before paying more.

Is a luxury hotel cheaper through a travel specialist?

The room rate is usually the same, but specialists who belong to luxury programs can often add breakfast, a resort credit, a room upgrade on availability and early check-in or late checkout at no extra cost.

When is the best value season?

The shoulder season. For the Caribbean and Mexico, late April to early June and November before the holidays. For the Mediterranean, May and late September to October.
