Luxury Seaside Hotels in the Caribbean & Mexico

Powder-sand beaches, calm turquoise water and some of the most polished small hotels in the world.

The Caribbean’s luxury hotels are often small: a few dozen suites on a perfect beach, with staff who know your name by the second morning. Mexico adds scale and glamour, with celebrated resorts on the Riviera Maya and in Los Cabos. High season runs from mid-December to April; hurricane season is June 1 to November 30.

Planning a Caribbean or Mexico Luxury Stay

Getting there

Many islands have nonstop flights from the U.S. East Coast; St. Barts and some private islands add a short hop by small plane or boat. Los Cabos (SJD) and Cancún (CUN) have the widest choice of flights.

Best time to go

Mid-December to April is dry and busy, with minimum stays over the holidays. Late April to June brings warm seas and lower rates.

What luxury looks like here

Villas and suites with private pools, beach butlers, water sports from the hotel dock and plenty of space between loungers.

Specialist tip

Ask about fourth- or fifth-night-free offers, which many Caribbean luxury hotels run outside peak weeks.

Caribbean & Mexico FAQ

Which Caribbean island has the best luxury hotels?

Anguilla, St. Barts and Turks & Caicos are famous for small, polished luxury hotels on superb beaches. Barbados has classic west-coast grandes dames, and Saint Lucia has dramatic hillside resorts facing the Pitons.

Is the Mexican Caribbean luxurious or just big resorts?

Both. Alongside large all-inclusives, the Riviera Maya has high-end enclaves such as Mayakoba, and Los Cabos on the Pacific side has some of Mexico’s most celebrated luxury hotels.
